Crafting an Alpha Portfolio
Crafting an Alpha Portfolio
In 2024, the market was challenging, but the founders were exceptional. We continued to hunt for innovative founders building solutions that create resilient families, individuals, and businesses.
This year, we added 9 new founders leading 5 new companies to our portfolio.
- Sean Worden & Katy Schuck: CEO & COO of Reelist, a hiring platform that enables HR teams to automate hiring directly off social platforms like Instagram and TikTok.
- Andrea Ippolito & Gaj Sunthara: CEO & CTO of Simplifed, a virtual lactation support and remote patient monitoring platform that provides care from 28 weeks of pregnancy through postpartum.
- Nishant Mathur & Chase Gladish: CEO and CTO of RollCredits, a cloud based financial management platform designed specifically for the production industry. Read more about the why behind our investment here.
- Kanan Ajmera: CEO of Builders Patch, an AI-powered platform for multi-family housing finance. Read more about the why behind our investment here.
Hunting for Exceptional Founders
Hunting for Exceptional Founders
This year, we’ve been energized by a robust pipeline of innovations from construction and blue collar workforce to expanded access to specialized care and increasing attention on the need for care economy investment.
In 2024, we met the most care tech founders, comprising 35% of our pipeline, followed by fintech founders, which accounted for 16% of our pipeline.
Looking ahead, we’re keeping a close eye on promising pre-seed companies approaching their seed raises. Our current watchlist includes:
- 32% Commerce Enablement: Companies transforming how businesses reach and serve customers.
- 29% Care Tech: Startups advancing healthcare access, quality, and outcomes.
- 23% Fintech: Innovations redefining financial services for businesses and consumers.
- 8% Future of Work: Solutions reshaping the modern workforce through tech-driven efficiency.
In early 2025, we’ll share a deep dive on market trends we are following and the big problems Artemis is seeking to solve through investments next year.
Adding New Comrades
Adding New Comrades
VC is a reputation and relationship driven business. We believe being good partners for both founders and co-investors will help us build an enduring firm. 2024 was no different, with our network expanding in meaningful ways. We are pleased to have forged new co-investment relationships, including Bienville Capital, Entrada Ventures, Nosara Capital, Rethink Impact, and Core Innovation Capital — partners who share our commitment to building a more inclusive, transformative future. This year alone, we helped raise over $33M in co-investment to fuel groundbreaking innovations and support resilient founders.
In 2025, we’ll continue to partner with the next generation of venture capitalists to uncover overlooked opportunities, de-risk early-stage investments, and build market-leading companies through collaboration and rigor.
Opening Our Aperture
Opening Our Aperture
This year reaffirmed our belief that groundbreaking companies aren’t limited to Silicon Valley. We expanded our search to new cities, uncovering diverse perspectives and untapped potential in overlooked ecosystems.
In Norfolk, Virginia, we partnered with VIPC (Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation) to deepen our support for emerging companies like Reelist. In Ithaca, New York, we discovered Simplified, and Max Retail is making waves from its base in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Next year, our journey continues into geographies where resourceful founders are building the future with ambition, discipline, and trust. Founding is a marathon — and we’re here for the long run.
Deepening Our Community
Deepening Our Community
Community isn’t just about who you know, it’s about what you build together. In 2024, we hosted 26 events in 9 cities, bringing together 1,100 founders, investors, and partners to collaborate and share ideas.
Tactically, we learned a few new things this year:
- Small, intimate gatherings foster deeper connections and stronger relationships.
- Themed events (i.e., women-focused coffees or deal-sharing dinners) create focus and momentum.
- Working with mission-aligned partners expands the network-effect of a single event.
As we look ahead to 2025, we will continue to foster meaningful connections that drive impact and amplify opportunities for our community.
We believe once in a generation companies will be built by unexpected founders. If that sounds like you, pitch us here!
